Match the branch to your Boston journey

Washington Street in Jamaica Plain, Norwood Street in Dorchester and the Massachusetts Avenue U-Haul are separate physical locations within Boston. Cambridge, Somerville and Quincy may appear in operator-wide Boston searches, but none of those places is being counted as an additional Boston listing here.

If you are clearing a flat, write down where the van can stop at both ends of the journey. A unit near public transport may help with later small retrievals, but it will not solve the first delivery of a sofa or a wardrobe. For university moves, choose the rental dates from your actual accommodation handover and return dates; this directory does not assume a shared academic calendar.

Jamaica Plain versus the Neponset side of Dorchester

Extra Space on Washington Street advertises a heated loading area, elevators and moving carts. This is useful handling infrastructure, not a promise that every unit is on the ground floor. Ask for the allocated floor, the distance from the unloading point and whether the lift is usable during all tenant access hours.

Norwood Street is at the corner of Norwood and Conley streets, with the provider naming Neponset / Port Norfolk and Clam Point in its local catchment. It advertises a covered, heated loading bay and elevators. Compare the practical unloading route at both branches using your largest item, not just the nominal unit size.

Massachusetts Avenue combines different services

U-Haul at 985 Massachusetts Avenue advertises indoor self storage, climate control, U-Box containers and moving-truck services. These are separate products. A portable-container booking has collection and retrieval questions that a conventional indoor unit does not. Ask which product the representative is quoting.

The location warns of limited on-street parking. It also advertises indoor loading/unloading and elevators, so contact the branch about how and where to arrive with a van. Do not assume a truck rental gives you priority at a loading bay or completes a storage agreement.

An access-hours conflict to settle in writing

The U-Haul source has a storage-access table that follows office hours, while its feature list advertises storage access from 5am to 10pm. We cannot resolve that contradiction from the page alone. Ask the branch which schedule applies to your actual unit and credential before booking a late arrival.

The Extra Space pages display 6am–10pm tenant access separately from staffed office hours. A displayed schedule is a source observation, not a guarantee about holidays, maintenance or every door in the building. Check the current week and make your first visit while staff can help.

Protect the items and the moving budget

All three locations advertise climate-control options, but that does not establish a universal humidity guarantee or specialist preservation standard. Ask about the exact unit conditions for items that are sensitive to temperature or moisture. Pack everything clean and dry and keep heavy cartons below lighter ones.

Compare rent, compulsory cover, lock and administration charges, the post-promotion rate and move-out conditions together. If your return date is uncertain, ask about extension and cancellation rather than treating a one-month rate as a fixed total. No current Boston average or live unit availability is claimed here.
