The three listed branches are spread across North Lamar Boulevard, South 1st Street and West 6th Street. They are not interchangeable nearby results: 8128 N Lamar is a north-side choice, 7200 S 1st is in South Austin, and 1213 W 6th is near the western edge of downtown. Start with the address from which you will collect belongings, not a city-centre pin.
For a one-off household move, a branch near your destination can simplify the final delivery. For tools, seasonal equipment or stock you retrieve regularly, sketch the complete home–storage–work journey. Test that journey at the times you expect to visit; AboutStorage does not estimate driving times or distances without a verified route.
West 6th Street explicitly advertises an all-indoor facility with climate-control options. Its inspected examples include elevator-access units, so the weather protection comes with a handling question: can the largest item pass through the lift, corridor and unit doorway? Ask for actual clearances and whether a cart is available.
North Lamar and South 1st advertise indoor and outdoor units. Those branch labels do not identify which product you will be allocated. Ask whether your quote is for an indoor room, a ground-level outdoor unit or a vehicle space. Indoor location alone does not prove cooling or humidity management. For delicate furniture, paper records or electronics, get the exact environmental specification rather than choosing on the word “indoor”.
North Lamar advertises car, boat and RV storage; South 1st advertises car storage. Those are facility-level service categories, not measured vacant spaces. Give the operator the complete vehicle dimensions, including mirrors, trailer and hitch, and ask about gate clearance, turning room and whether the quoted space is enclosed or uncovered.
A unit that can physically contain a vehicle is not automatically approved for one. Obtain the permitted-use, registration, insurance and fuel rules before moving it. Do not compare the price of an uncovered parking space with an indoor furniture unit as though they were the same product.
The North Lamar and South 1st pages both publish 6am–10pm property hours and a separate “24/7 access available” label. That label is not the same as unconditional 24-hour access. Ask whether extended entry requires approval, a particular unit, an additional fee or a different gate credential.
Plan your first visit during staffed hours even if later access is extended. Confirm identification, your lock type, the gate code and the move-in process. A staffed office or full-service kiosk does not itself establish permission to enter the unit at night.
Use the same move-in date, dimensions, access type and intended stay for each quote. The inspected Public Storage pages disclose an administration charge, but we do not present partial rent as an all-in local price. Taxes, accepted cover, locks, promotions and future rate changes can alter the amount you pay.
Request the amount due now, the renewal rent, the promotion end date and the written move-out notice process. For a short gap between homes, ask specifically whether the final billing period is refundable. For longer storage, compare the full planned stay rather than the opening discount.
