Three Houston addresses with different everyday uses
West Gray Street, Calhoun Road and North Houston Rosslyn Road are not interchangeable local options. Public Storage is at 224 W Gray Street. Extra Space at 5414 Calhoun Road is near Old Spanish Trail on the south side, with the operator identifying Greater Third Ward and South Park in its surrounding catchment. Extra Space at 5811 N Houston Rosslyn Road is in the Greater Inwood area, with Central Northwest and Inwood North named as nearby communities.
Begin with the part of Houston where the belongings will be used next. A household move may favor the destination side of the journey; equipment collected throughout the week may favor your normal work route. Compare the entrance address, not an operator search pin or a list of neighborhoods served. A catchment description does not create a separate branch, and a Houston-area search is not proof that every result is inside the city.
Calhoun Road: sheltered unloading with indoor choices
Calhoun Road advertises indoor, first-floor and elevator-access units as well as climate control. Its drive-in building lets customers bring a vehicle inside for loading or unloading. The branch also lists a loading dock, covered heated loading bay, carts and elevators. Ask which unloading area serves the quoted room and whether you will use a ramp, dock or elevator; the presence of all those facilities does not identify your specific route.
If movers are delivering furniture, send the branch the vehicle height and length and the largest item dimensions before arrival. The facility advertises accommodation for trucks larger than 20 feet and wide aisles, but you still need the relevant entrance clearance and turning instructions. For an upper-floor room, compare the elevator load limit and doorway with the furniture as packed. Keep an accessible aisle inside the unit if you expect to retrieve only part of the load later.
North Houston Rosslyn: drive-up is a different product
The North Houston Rosslyn Road branch advertises drive-up units, wide aisles for moving trucks and indoor vehicle storage. That makes it a different comparison from the indoor, elevator-served rooms at West Gray or Calhoun. A vehicle beside the unit door can reduce the carrying route for heavy equipment, but it does not establish climate control. If temperature management matters, request a specifically described product rather than assuming an enclosed garage-like room is conditioned.
For a car or motorcycle, obtain the usable doorway width and height, internal clearance and permitted-use conditions. A nominal room size cannot establish whether mirrors, a roof attachment or a trailer hitch will clear the entrance. Ask about registration, cover and fuel rules, and do not confuse storage permission with permission to repair or work on a vehicle. Vehicle storage and household storage should be quoted separately even when both are enclosed.
West Gray: compare climate control and the elevator route
West Gray lists indoor climate-controlled storage. Its unit examples include upstairs access via elevator, and the page advertises moving carts. Before paying for a room, ask for the floor, unloading position and door arrangement on the actual quote. A first-floor room at another address and an upper-floor room here may have the same nominal dimensions but require different mover time and effort.
For furniture, paper records or electronics, discuss the environmental needs of the items rather than simply selecting the word indoor. Ask what temperature and moisture control applies to the assigned room, whether any limits are contractual and what protection your cover actually provides. Pack belongings clean and dry; climate control is not a substitute for drying recently cleaned furniture or wet outdoor equipment before closing the unit.
Separate standard hours from approved overnight access
West Gray, Calhoun Road and North Houston Rosslyn Road display standard tenant access from 6am to 10pm daily. Calhoun additionally advertises 24-hour access, with the instruction to ask the site manager for details. Treat that as an eligibility question rather than permission for every renter. Confirm the room, gate credential, building door and any approval or added charge before arranging a delivery outside standard hours.
Plan the initial handover while someone can resolve a lock or credential problem. Before reserving, request a dated breakdown of the first payment, continuing rent, administration charge, required cover and lock cost, plus the promotion end date and notice rules. Compare the entire intended stay, not a small locker promotion against a furniture room. Keep the unit dimensions and access type attached to each quote. An online reservation is a step toward renting; verify the signed agreement and authorized move-in time before sending the truck.
